There’s no denying it: the fitness world is littered with gimmicks, old and new alike. Because they often overpromise and underdeliver, gimmicks tend to get a bad rap. After all, there’s no such thing as quick fix when it comes to lasting results from any workout or diet. In fact, this principle is true with most things in life.

By definition, gimmicks are either tricks or tools, and in either circumstance their purpose is to reorient a preexisting perspective on a given topic. For example, those who think staying active and getting in shape requires a massive overhaul to their daily or weekly routine need to be enlightened. In this way, gimmicks are good, because they help these individuals foster the requisite motivation to set new goals and try new workouts.

Regardless of perception, substantial exercise always yields an immediate positive outcome in the short term. Stay active and real change will inevitably follow. Moreover, not every workout should necessarily last an hour, or even 30 minutes for that matter. Short, efficient ab workouts especially appeal to those with busy schedules.

Nobody understands the importance motivation and efficiency better than Gideon Akande. Gideon is a world-class motivator and fitness influencer who brings energy, creativity and a big smile to everything he does. As Men’s Health “Next Top Trainer” in 2015, he knows how to balance reality with hope when inspiring his clients to reach their full potential.

“This ab workout won’t take up much time and will have you feeling proud and accomplished”

Perhaps the most famous fitness gimmick of all is the promise of “instant abs,” which is nothing short of fantasy. However, there is tremendous value in a quick ab workout. For those looking to tighten up their core in a hurry, Gideon recommends a workout that can be done in less time than it takes to reheat leftovers in the microwave or brew a pot of coffee, namely, a sixty-second ab blast.

The ab workout consists of the below instructions:

  • 20 seconds of bicycles
  • 20 second plank walk
  • 20 seconds of v-sits

Of course, additional repetitions will burn more calories and grow endurance over time as the abs gets stronger. Before long, “give me five minutes” will carry a whole new meaning.

At the end of the day, Gideon’s sixty-second ab blast will bring the results it promises, making it a tool, not a trick.
