Are People Exercising More or Less During COVID-19?
A recent New York Times article tackled this important question, initially citing new research out of the UK that showed a general decline in physical activity during the early months of the pandemic. Other studies indicated an uptick over the summer. Story author Gretchen Reynolds references one study, which revealed that “in the United States and other nations, Google searches related to the word ‘exercise’ spiked and remained elevated for months.” Of course, there can be no clear-cut answer when examining over 7 billion people scattered around the globe, but one thing remains certain: staying active is essential for everyone to stay healthy and happy.
