Health and Fitness Benefits of Swimming for Exercise

The term swimming is often used interchangeably with standing in the shallow end of a swimming pool or wading in the ocean. However, these leisure activities are a far cry from the intense aquatic workout that comprise the sport of swimming. Swimming is famously rewarding. In addition to a full-body exercise, it offers additional rewards such as loosening your body and clearing your mind. As Dr. Mark Lieber points out in a recent CNN Health article, it can also improve your mood by “stimulating the production of endorphins – natural opioids produced in the brain – as well as other neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.” Read more.
