Is Golfing a Better Workout Than Walking? New Study Says Yes

Although the game of golf is often called a leisure sport, hitting the links may be a better workout than many people might assume. A new study published in the British Medical Journal found that golf can provide more health benefits than a simple walk. Specifically, researchers concluded that the longer duration of the sport and higher energy expenditure required in hard swings like teeing off “appeared to have a more positive effect on lipid profile and glucose metabolism compared with Nordic walking and walking.” Dr. Andrew Murray, chief medical officer of the European Tour and Ryder Cup-Europe, told US News: “Whether you are 3 or 103, playing golf can likely have health benefits, and there are few sports that people can play across the life course.” Read more.
