Scout Bassett Talks Importance of Recovery and Girls in Sports

Paralympian Scout Bassett is an expert in overcoming the odds on the road to achieving extraordinary success. The 33-year-old bronze medalist lost her right leg in a fire when she was only an infant. Fast forward a quarter century to 2016, and she was standing on the medalist platform in Rio de Janeiro. Bassett advocates for girls to stay engaged in sports into their teen years and beyond, encouraging them to prioritize proper rest and recovery to avoid burnout. “I don’t think it can be stressed enough how important it is for athletes of all levels and ages to really take those recovery days and even parts of the year where you take a bit of an off-season away from doing sports, just for a little bit, to reboot,” she told Shape.
