Long gone are the days when runners and gym rats had to worry about the music skipping from their wireless CD players. Current fitness fanatics can enjoy curated playlists designed to help maximize their workout from start to finish. Of course, securing the rights to stream everyone’s favorite artists does not come cheap. Companies like Apple, Peloton, Equinox, Echelon and Liteboxer are pouring millions of dollars into licensing in order to build and keep a loyal user base. Apparently, it’s money well spent, since “The exercise app business was worth $4.4 billion last year — a 53% increase from 2019, according to Grand View Research, which expects it to climb to $15.5 billion by 2028,” as noted in a recent article from Billboard.
