What are the Best Ways to Stretch Before a Workout?

Most people learn the importance of stretching before an intense exercise from the time they are young schoolchildren. Unfortunately, many people only learn static stretching, which is better suited for a post-workout routine. Dynamic stretching involves constant, yet slow movements that help warm the muscles up to prevent injury and maximize performance. Miami-based physical therapist Marcia Denis recently told SELF that she recommends a circuit workout of the following: Child’s pose, Cat-cow, Donkey kick, Bird-dog crunch and Down Dog to runner’s lunge. For optimal results, Dr. Denis suggests performing the circuit for five minutes, making sure to move slowly and with control, before repeating two or three times. Read more.
